Student Robotics: Fixing the Circuit (Part 1)

Since the last blog post about our hardware, we realized a small rookie mistake with the wiring: We connected the stepper motors with a servo board, which doesn’t make sense because stepper motors aren’t servos. Thus we needed to change some things up and connect the motors to microstep drivers instead. Fortunately, this was a quick fix and we could continue working on other things.

Another unexpected issue we faced was figuring out how to charge the LiPo battery because we couldn’t find the adapter for the charger, but it all worked out eventually.

Other than that, we also forgot to connect the power switch loop to the on/off button on the Power Board, that’s also why we weren’t able to switch on the power of the robot. Thanks to the Interactive Student Robotics Troubleshooter we were able to understand this issue fairly quickly.

As you can probably tell, you can expect to see more trial and error from us in the future, as we are still learning a lot!
