After successfully completing the preliminary round of Eurobot 2024 in Giessen, where our senior team took first place and our junior team second place, we were once again able to travel to France to take part in the international competition. The journey first took us from Markt Indersdorf to Troyes, where we spent the night and explored the beautiful city. The next day we continued our journey to La-Roche-sur-Yon, the venue of the competition.
We set off on the very first day to get homologated as quickly as possible. Although we had some problems at the beginning, we succeeded on the first day. The first rounds started the next day. We had optimised our tactics to make our robot work as effectively as possible. In the first match, we scored 69 points and defeated the Cosmic Cultivators. In the second match, we increased our score to 93 points. We were very happy about that.
In the third round against DIT, we unfortunately only scored 16 points, while DIT scored no points at all. This was because the opposing team stayed in front of us and we were stuck behind them. We then continued to optimise in order to compensate for this setback in the next round. Unfortunately, we had a problem with the power supply shortly before the final. Thanks to the referees‘ permission, we were the last team to compete against a dummy bot and scored just under 94 points in this round.
In the fifth round, we only scored 62 points due to inaccuracies on the pitch and lost to Red Wire, which was very unfortunate. Nevertheless, we made it to the final. We didn’t do any further testing until the final rounds to avoid further hardware problems. We had developed a tactic that should have enabled us to score around 150 points. However, we only scored 72 points in the final because a plant got stuck in the gripper arm. We were therefore already defeated in the round of sixteen.
Immediately afterwards, we played another round on a different pitch and scored 148 points. That was very disappointing, but we accepted our eighth place with satisfaction. Nevertheless, the atmosphere of the competition was great once again. We watched the coupe-off and brought our own spinbots. As always, we were surprised by the good teamwork between the teams as everyone helped each other and our bot probably wouldn’t have got this far without the support of the other teams.
