Junior.ING: First Ideas

Actually, the first idea was pretty … shit. It wasn‘t as imaginative as we wanted it to be, and pretty similar to the Olympia-arena in munich, so we‘re literally presenting the second idea.

We thought a lot about, how it could be able to work in reality, because building a roof out of the given materials would be quickly done, but you couldn’t build it in a size, 80 times bigger, and so we searched for examples.

Now our main Example Is the Lanxess arena in Köln, Germany, which owns an arch truss to take the roof up. The innovative spark at the project is currently, to build a bow about a semicircle-roof.

Now, the idea is, to tension the bow to the front of the arena, that it pulls the roof up and to the front. We try to realize that by fixing the ropes in front of the building as well as that we try to make up the roof at the back from the stand so that it seems like hovering.

Further, we want the base to be pretty material-saving, even if this isn’t predefined. To implement that, we build sharpening tunnels to the centre of the Base, but this makes a few problems, too. The biggest problem probably is the wind-test with the airdryer, because the air will instantly bundle up at the end of the tunnel.
